Even 10-15 years ago cohabitation without registration was considered unacceptable in our country. Today, about 24% of Russians live in common-law marriage. Let us consider in detail the advantages and disadvantages of such a relationship.

The advantages of civil marriage

What is wrong if the young people live together for a while? Indeed, there are a lot of advantages in free cohabitation:

  • with the help of it you can check whether people are suitable for each other in both domestic and sexual terms;
  • even in the case of the appearance of children, a man has every right to register them in his own name; marriage at the same time is not necessary;
  • someone who has passed the divorce procedure knows how long it takes to reissue documents, especially when changing his name; upon dissolution of a civil marriage this is not required;
  • When dividing property, everyone simply takes their own things, together the acquired good is divided in half.

Even official registration cannot guarantee that a couple will live together their whole lives.

According to statistics, today for every 100 official marriages, there are 40 divorces. So why then do you need an official marriage?

Disadvantages of cohabitation without registration. Some statistics

Civil marriage research has been seriously pursued by experts from the United States, Canada, New Zealand, and Sweden for many years. Their results are disappointing.

It is proved that cohabitation without marriage does not contribute to family strengthening.

Unregistered relationships turn into an eternal trial. As a result, they are destroyed 2 times more often than in cases with a registered marriage. Registration, even long-term cohabitation ends very rarely.

And quarrels and conflicts in families living in a civil marriage, it turns out, happen much more often. After all, family members do not accept any obligations. Partners initially did not consider the union they created as something serious and permanent. Freedom and independence remains foreground for them.

A registered couple can continue to cohabit for quite some time. Someone is attracted by household amenities, someone - material wealth. Naturally, sex is also an important factor. After all, the presence of a permanent partner is undoubtedly very convenient. But love and trust in such families is much less. After all, something prevents them from registering, finally, their relationship.

If the young are initially confident in their partner, going to the registry office seems to them a normal logical end to the relationship. Distrust towards the partner is not the best companion in the relationship between a man and a woman.

Attitudes towards civil marriage of men and women

It is curious that mostly men insist on free cohabitation. In their opinion, official marriage is a serious encroachment on their personal freedom.

Girls in most cases agree to temporarily live without registration just because they are afraid of parting. It seems to them that in case of failure, the men will immediately find another pair. Moreover, the point is not that women are more conservative. Indeed, in practice, in the event of the collapse of the family, the obligation to raise children lies with the woman:

  • if the father for some reason is not inscribed on the birth certificate of the child (this happens automatically in the official marriage), she will have to prove paternity in court, and this is a rather expensive procedure;
  • despite the fact that women in modern society are more independent, in the first months after childbirth they remain face to face with their problems; to earn something during the decree is not easy; in order to receive alimony for himself and for the child, he will first need to prove paternity;
  • the division of property in a civil marriage may turn into a serious problem; It is the woman who is most concerned about this because she has to raise her own children for many years.

Advice! Psychologist Rakhimov suggests a couple living in a trial marriage to test their own feelings. To do this, you should live without sex for a while. If only people were connected by passion, they would immediately part. Sometimes a similar experience ends in marriage.

This means that the young, in addition to bodily relations, are united by something more important and significant.

Civil marriage after 40-50 years

At this age people agree more willingly to cohabit without marriage than at a young age. Moreover, the refusal of registration may come not only from a man, but also from a woman. No matter how well the partners relate to each other, in most cases they dream of leaving property acquired over many years to leave for their own children.

Such marriages are quite strong and can last for years. People at this age are able to more adequately assess their future partner. Sex is already fading into the background. Warmth, emotional closeness and understanding become more important.

But in this case, marriage without registration has many pitfalls. In the event of the death of one of the partners, the heirs act rather brutally, depriving the deceased roommate of even his own property or property acquired by him in a civil marriage. After all, to prove that the machine, furniture, equipment and other jointly acquired things is simply impossible. Moreover, if part of the property was bought on credit, the remaining partner will have to continue to pay for it, regardless of whether he continues to use it or not.

Therefore, to refuse to officially marry at this age is also not worth it. Inheritance can be secured with a will. If desired, part of the property can be left to the partner.

If the income of one of the partners is much higher, the conclusion of a marriage agreement will not be out of place. In this case, during a divorce, the acquired property will not have to be divided equally. And going to court and paying state duty will be useless. The notary will divide the property according to the clauses of the marriage agreement.
