Slavic dolls amulets

Imagine for a moment the daily life of our ancestors - without smartphones, phones, cars, TVs, home appliances, the Internet and even electricity. At that time, people's lives revolved around the natural cycle. People lived together with nature and climatic conditions. They were much closer to nature and magic than we are now. For each important event, such as harvesting, meeting of spring, summer solstice, appropriate dolls amulets were made. Each doll had its own purpose - some were burned for the rite of purification, some were filled with grains in order to attract wealth to the house. They were made of cloth, straw or clay.

When a baby was born in a family, a doll was necessarily made to take away the evil eye, damage, envy and black magic from the baby. In the event of a wedding, special dolls were made, which were called lovebirds. They guarded the new family from envy, quarrels and evil eyes, helping to strengthen the union. Lovebirds were made from a single piece of matter, with one common handle, hence the name "lovebirds." Two dolls were one, the same fate. At the birth of a baby, an eyelet was sewn on to dolls of lovebirds. For the holidays for dolls sewed beautiful clothes. They needed to be cherished all their lives. Our ancestors had strong alliances. Who knows, maybe part of the secret lies precisely in amulets of lovebirds?

Guard dolls - rules for making

The guard dolls were always made with a clean, snow-white face, without images of eyes, nose and eyebrows. White color was the personification of spirituality and purity of thoughts. An unclean spirit could not move into a doll without a face; it could not be enchanted. In the process of making such dolls, the use of scissors, needles, or any other sharp objects was not allowed. There was a belief that the injections of a doll can be harmful to the health of its owner. Needles were allowed only in the process of tailoring, when the doll itself was ready.

Guard dolls were made only by women. In the house where the doll was made, even the presence of a man was not allowed. Little boys are also forbidden to look at the process of making a charm. Only women were engaged in charms. It was believed that only the feminine energy can give the doll all the necessary properties. When the girls sewed dolls, they sang songs, joked and had fun. With a bad mood, no one took up making a talisman.

The most important thing in making a charm is not a technique, but energy, which is invested in a doll. Women made dolls only to people whom they really loved and wanted to protect, then such a talisman was filled with magic power.

Lovebirds - dolls do-it-yourselfers (master class)

Lovebirds help to make the marriage union strong and indestructible, protect love and well-being, repelling misfortune and adversity from the married couple. Such a talisman can be made before and after the wedding. The main thing is to do it with love. If your doll turned out to be a little crooked or not as beautiful as in the picture - do not worry. In order for the charm to really work, the pupae must be made from one unbroken piece of white matter and fastened with a red thread. Until the dolls are ready, the thread can not be cut off. When you sew jewelry and clothes, you can break off the thread.

To make dolls amulets do-it-yourself (and this will help our small master class), we need a piece of square white fabric, a ball of red thread and cotton wool. Clothes can be arranged to your liking.

Fold the fabric in half, put on the table fold up. Visually we divide matter into two parts, on the left there will be a figure of a man, on the right - a woman. Around the center of the left side, in the area of the fold of the fabric, we make the head for the husband. Take a piece of fleece and twist the thread around your head an even number of times. We make three knots, and without breaking the thread, we move on.

We take the extreme upper piece of fabric, which is located near the head, and make a pen. Twist your hand into a small flagellum and tightly wrap the thread. When the handle is ready, tie three knots on it and thread the thread to the place where it will be groin.

Visually we divide the fabric for the legs of the man’s figure, then we make the first leg, just as we did the hand. We wind the second leg, groin area and abdomen.

Then we fasten the thread at the waist on three knots and make a cross on the chest guard, wrapping the chest crosswise three times. We make an outline with a thread in the area of a common handle, then we wind it beautifully with a thread. Again fasten to three knots. Half the amulet is ready.

Now proceed to the head of a woman. Again, take the cotton wool, put it into the fabric, and twist the thread. Then we make the woman handle and fasten to three nodes. We wind the thread around the woman’s chest three times, creating a protective cross. Then the thread form the line of our slim waist.

Now the charm is ready, the thread can be cut off. At will, dolls can be dressed up and decorated. But the traditional amulet is ready.
