Seychelles ... What draws our imagination in the first moment when you hear this name? Turquoise ocean, sparkling white sand, blue cloudless sky, coconut palms leaning right to the water's edge and ... serenity.

But this is just an imposed stereotype, a beautiful picture from the Bounty advertisement and honeymoon travel booklets. In fact, the Seychelles is far from being such a heavenly place as many represent it. Those who have lived there for some time know what to dislike for these islands.

  • For the extraordinary cost of local life. In the Seychelles there is no animal husbandry and almost no farming, so most of the products are brought in from the outside, and prices in supermarkets are much higher than in Europe. In low-cost stores the range is very limited, many favorite curd and kefir are missing. The selection of fruits (except local exotics) on the market is also small.
  • For difficulties with medical care. Only one public hospital with good equipment is located in the capital of Victoria on the island of Mahe. At the same time there are few pharmacies on the islands and a small selection of medicines.
  • For the rising crime rate. The main population of Seychelles lives very poorly, recently the drug addiction has spread. Seychellois are lazy, like to drink, and therefore they steal valuables in hotels and in the homes of rich foreigners. Often there are thefts on deserted "wild" beaches, they can gently pull out money and credit cards, leaving the wallet itself. The police work very formally, there is practically no real help from it.
  • For the poor quality of local products and the lack of choice of household appliances. Therefore, many fly shopping in Dubai, Singapore or Mauritius. Local souvenirs are very expensive, and bargaining is not accepted.
  • For interruptions in water. There are days when it is given only for an hour a day, you need to have time to take a shower and do all the household chores. This is due to the fact that there is no fresh water in the Seychelles, and its main source is rain. By the way, water is not advised to drink water from a tap.
  • For the inconvenient mode of operation of local stores. On weekdays, they are open from 8 to 17 h., And on Saturdays from 8 to 12 h. At the same time, lunch is from 12 to 13 h. On Sunday, stores do not work.
  • For the lack of normal service in many hotels at very high prices for the rest. Therefore, it is often said that nature in the Seychelles corresponds to 5 stars, and service is only three.
  • For a small amount of cultural entertainment and attractions. In the capital of the Seychelles - Victoria - you can look at the mini-copy of Big Ben, an Indian temple, visit the Museum of Natural History, and that's all the monuments of art. And from the entertainment of nightlife there are only a few cinemas, casinos and discos in the rural style, where rhythms of reggae and Creole music are played.
  • For many ubiquitous geckos (local lizards), who love to climb into the houses and bungalows of hotels in search of food leftovers, rustling at night in trash cans.
  • Finally, because of the increased humidity and tropical rainy seasons, due to which many things, leather goods and furniture smell like mold.
